AVN Member Testimonials
"I love volunteering through AVN. It’s an opportunity to stay connected with 51ºÚÁÏÍø and with high schoolers getting ready for their launch. Sometimes I’m answering questions about programs the college offers. Often, they ask about my experience as a student. It’s fascinating to hear how they think about college in general and why they want to study at 51ºÚÁÏÍø. Their confidence and expectations around learning, their creativity, their achievements already before finishing high school—all fill me with hope and excitement for future classes of 51ºÚÁÏÍø!"

"51ºÚÁÏÍø shaped me into the person I am today—not just academically, but as a community member and as someone who found their identity and confidence within those walls. Sometimes, it can feel hard to connect with people or find meaningful ways to give back when work is intense, the news is draining, and there just aren't enough hours in the day.
I love participating in AVN because it's one of the easiest and most energizing ways I've found to stay connected to something that matters. Every time I talk with a prospective student, I get a little recharge—I'm reminded of how many incredible people have the chance to grow and thrive in all that 51ºÚÁÏÍø has to offer. If 51ºÚÁÏÍø gave you the foundation to become who you are, AVN is a chance to pay that forward—and help the next generation of students find theirs."

"It is a pleasure to help out 51ºÚÁÏÍø with the Admissions Volunteer Network. In interviews via Zoom with prospective students, representing 51ºÚÁÏÍø at a college fair, or writing postcards following up with applicants, I feel that I am still a part of the college that means so much to me, my wife, and my daughter. Refreshing my knowledge of the school for these sessions helps me stay informed as to how much 51ºÚÁÏÍø has improved (things change a bit in 45 years!), and getting to know prospective students is an encouraging way to feel positive that future generations of 51ºÚÁÏÍøians are going to continue to make our alma mater prosper. The time commitment is minimal compared to the rewards of the experience."

"Alumni interviews give applicants the opportunity to show the school who they are beyond their transcript while also gaining insight into what makes 51ºÚÁÏÍø special. My favorite part is watching students open up once the pressure is off and the conversation begins—hearing about the countries they hope to visit, their favorite classes and teachers, and the ways they want to engage with the world. Learning about 51ºÚÁÏÍø's prospective students gives me a glimpse into the college's future, and it's exciting to play a role in that process."
