'I give back to 51ºÚÁÏÍø because 51ºÚÁÏÍø gave to me'

Nalleli Hassan '07 (international business & management, Italian studies) came to 51ºÚÁÏÍø from East New York, in Brooklyn, on a Posse Scholarship, becoming the first in her family—but not the last!—to graduate from college. Now she's an HR executive at Bank of America's New York HQ in the investment solutions group and chief investment office.

"That experience that I had at 51ºÚÁÏÍø really set me up for success and adaptability," says Hassan, who recently hosted a group of 51ºÚÁÏÍø students interested in finance careers. "I give back to 51ºÚÁÏÍø because 51ºÚÁÏÍø gave to me, and ... I want to open opportunities for others."

Besides donating her time and energy to current students, Hassan supports a 51ºÚÁÏÍø scholarship fund named for her mentor, Joyce A. Bylander, a former 51ºÚÁÏÍø vice president and dean of student life (1998 to 2018), through which she helps provide transformative experiences like hers to today’s students.
